Rhetoric at Arms
2025
Concrete, hammer, microscopic video, sound
The Public’s Domain, Mamdouha S. Bobst Gallery, New York
Footage of concrete being smashed at normal and microscopic scales, overlaid with text and audio from Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms (1929), page 165, remixed into captions.
Repeated and rearranged, the words decay into hollow combinations of sound, exploring how wartime rhetoric becomes irrelevant to those living through it and how individual experience is drowned beneath institutional agendas.
